Vintage Photo Album REDnesday & VTT

This week I'm sharing the same entry with both REDnesday and Vintage Thingie Thursday. Hope you will join in the fun!

(Please visit Suzanne at Colorado Lady for info re Vintage Thingie Thursday)

(Please visit Sue at It's A Very Cherry World for Rednesday fun and info.)

I am sharing a (red!) vintage photo album this Rednesday and Vintage Thingie Thursday. It is from my mother's side of the family. It has a charming inscription and some photos have names and dates. I'm hoping to solve all the mysteries contained inside.

This is the inscription inside. It reads:
Grand Ma Smith's
Giving her daughter
to her great granddaughter
(then my grandmother's name)
(I didn't white out the original, that's a scanned copy)

I am guessing/hoping that this is Grand Ma Smith???
I am so very lost. I have a genealogy but I think Grand
Ma Smith is an off shoot that's not included . WAH!
Fingers crossed that the boxes of things I brought home
from my parents will reveal everyone's identities!
I am posting the photos in the order they
were in the photo album.

The following two portraits appear to be
photos of the couple above in later years.

The two baby photos are pictures of my
grandmother's Aunt Luella at 8 months old.

My grandmother's father, Robert.
(My grandmother is pictured in my
banner on the far left hand side.)

My grandmother's Aunt Luella.

My grandmother's father, Robert and
his sister, Luella in 1874 or 1875.

My grandmother's father, Robert
and his sister, Luella.

Aunt Luella.

There are first names for this lovely group,
but I don't know who they are related to???
The young lady on the right, seems to have
a family resemblance to my grandmother.
I wonder if it could be her mother???
Oh! This is so much fun!

Happy Rednesday and Vintage Thingie Thursday Everyone!

  3. Hi Anne-Marie!
Yes, I feel really lucky for these to have survived one hundred thirty five + years! Isn't the hand tooled cover great?!

  4. Hi Elizabeth!
Wasn't Luella a cutie?! She's even lovelier in later photos. Grandma Smith has really thrown me for a loop. I finally found a reference to a "Smith" branch but don't see the link between the two. I'm going to need to put my sleuthing cap on for this one! :)
    Happy Rednesday,

  5. That is gorgeous....I have a green one just like it, well similar. I kinda crack up at the pictures....everyone looks older than they really are, and sometimes they even look crabby when they where not at all....just my opinion:) great album to have!!~

  7. How lucky you are to have that. What fun learning about your ancestry. My uncle spent 30 years pounding doors to get us some memories. It's wonderful to have.

  8. Sally,
Again you have the most precious treasures! You'll probably be able to figure out your questions eventually. I'm in the process of doing my geneology-I wish I had a picture album like yours. I really love all your comments on my blog, by the way. You are so funny and cheerful. Happy Reds!

  10. Hi Debbie!
Ohhhh, I bet a green one is so pretty! I know what you mean, it's so hard to gauge how old everyone is and they look like such sour pusses most of the time. Wonder what that was all about?
    Happy Rednesday,

  12. Hi Rosie!
Yes, I feel so very lucky! Wow, your uncle sounds like such and amazing person to have pursued your family history so diligently, for so very long! (If it took him thirty years, it will probably take me 130! I'm a slow poke.)
    Happy Rednesday,

  13. Hi Leslie!
Thank you! You're so sweet - I always think I sound like a knucklehead but I'm aiming for warm and friendly. ;)
There is much more info for my mother's side of the family than my father's. My dad is still alive but seems to have forgotten so much in the past couple of years. I could kick myself for not asking questions earlier.
    Happy Rednesday,
    Sally

  16. Hi Mary!
Isn't it wonderful, I'm quite bowled over by it. I have a bit of luck with my mother's family - one of her relatives did a pretty in depth genealogy. Even so, I'm still thrown by this Grand Ma Smith - I found that someone married a "Smith" but so far I can't find the family connection to my grandmother.
Putting on my Sherlock Holmes cap!

You can always put up supports and hang a swing anywhere. I've seem em just in the middle of a yard, next to a walkway, or along a creek, but if there are no options...you can stop by anytime ans sit with me.

  45. Hi "P"!
What a coincidence indeed! Or perhaps we're related!! :) I did look online last night and lo and behold, there was my mother's family genealogy. WOW! I already have one that a cousin (or maybe an uncle???) of hers had compiled and printed for the family but it was so odd to see "my" ancestors on the internet. I wasn't thinking of all the other branches and off shoots that I share ancestors with, could be out there. As they say, you can find everything on the internet!
    Happy sleuthing!

Have you woken up yet? Hope you're enjoying your "not have to rush" summer vacation days! My husband has six more days left after today. Hurray hurrah!
Thank you so much for your sweet comments - Luella (I keep wanting to spell it the way we do these days but it is spelled without the "o" on the back of her pictures) just gets prettier and prettier in the photos. And she has a lightness in her expression, which a lot of the old portraits don't - the people look so sad or hard, quite often.
    Happy Thursday!
