Vintage Thingie Thursday

There's still time to join in the fun at the Coloradolady, for Vintage Thingie Thursday! I'm so thankful for topics for blog posts as I seem to have run out of steam ... my mind is empty, devoid of ideas these days! I'm afraid even with a prompt, it's slim pickings.

Here's an adorable photo of my dad's mom when she was young, somewhere around 1900? (I should probably say that my blog banner is of my mother's family and the photo I included in today's post is from my father's family.) I've also included a fun needle booklet that I found in her things - the design on the booklet looks rather like something from the Arts and Crafts movement era??? There's an inch or two of green thread left in one of the needles, I wonder what she was making?!

  5. My mother taught me how to sew - - - and being that she was such a perfectionist and I'm not, I ended up HATING it like the plague.

HOWEVER - - - I do remember needles coming in paper packs like those INSIDE the bigger needle pack you have shown. We also got them from time to time in little wooden tubes. Mom kept a wooden tube the REST of her life in which she kept needles.

Thanks for visiting with my bears today - - - and the bear puns are all part of the bear fun!!!

  17. Hi Keetha!
I'm so sorry to hear about your early sewing experience! I took a needlepoint class years ago with a (very famous) embroidery teacher and she criticized me for working slowly. Geez. It really hurt my feelings. More importantly, what was it to her?! Pinhead. ;)
    Happy Friday!

I so admire your weaving, just gorgeous!
How fun to collect needle books. My grandmothers doesn't have a date on it - it does say it was "made in Germany". I wasn't sure if it was Art Deco or Arts and Crafts???
    Happy Friday to you!

  26. Hi Pammie! :)
She is my grammie - my dad's mom. And I woke up in the night and realized I really messed up on the date of the photo - should be circa 1890ish, instead of 1900. Ay yi yi, I can't add or subtract anymore with this middle aged brain of mine.
    Happy happy Friday!

  33. That needle booklet is a little work of art, worthy of framing! And I'm so glad that you told us about your banner being a picture of your mother's family. I love seeing it every time I visit! I wonder what the occasion was. Everyone is dressed to the nines!
    Happy VTT!

  35. Hi Carol!
You're so sweet, thank you! The cute little blondie in the center of the banner is my mom ... looking at the screen, the man and woman to the far left, are her parents (my grandparents) ... the woman with her hand on my mom's shoulder is her grandmother (her father's mother). I think it must have been a family reunion, that's why they are all gathered together and in their finery. :)
Happy VTT and weekend to you!
