Homegrown Revolution

Love this! Found via the blog, Goodness Recycled (click on both text words "this" in her Earth Day post - both links are wonderful!)

I have been following this inspiring Pasadena, CA family for several years but I hadn't seen this video about them before.

They have a website, Path to Freedom.
And they have a blog.

I love the idea of "walking backwards" and becoming free. Free from pesticides, additives, genetically modified foods, high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, etc. And good gosh, what about the BPA in cans and plastics ... shiver shiver shake!

We're growing tomatoes and lettuce this year, hope to enlarge that exponentially next year!

Have you found yourself more interested in growing your own food too? I'd love to hear about your plans and your vegetable gardens.

  1. Hi Sally! We are growing tomatoes, squash, lettuce and herbs. We have been composting for about 10 years, and the county I live in has a great recycling program. I have started a butterfly and bee garden because of the drop in honey bees. Every little step helps our planet, right? My goal is to take a new step every year, and make it a habit. Happy Sunday to you!! xox

  2. Hey Sally- we have four beds of veggies but I want more! Thanks for the link to this video-- so inspiring! We have a huge front yard but it is almost completely shaded during the day So I think that's out. I'm always looking for more places to expand the garden!

  3. Hey Girl,
My soon to be graduate is the one that started our garden last year. He did almost all the work. Since he's a vegetarian he loved as did all of us! Thanks for this post.

  4. Hi Valerie!

  5. Hi Pam!
Yeah you! I wanted to grow zucchini but we don't have a good spot right now, since I gather it's gargantuan?! And I need to go get some herb plants ... basil, mint ... what do you suggest?
L.A. has finally got a good compost thing going - we can put our compost stuff in our green (grass clippings) bin.
Oh! I so want a butterfly garden. Do you have the metal thing where you can skewer an apple for them??? I saw it at Wild Things and their butterflies just loved it. That's so cool that you've got stuff to attract bees too! Scary that so many have died! YIKES!
    Happy Monday to you!

  6. Hi Lori!
Wow! Four beds!!! That's so great. I'm so envious. We have to start planning now for next year since we're going to remove some grass AND the hubs and I can't decide on where we want to put our raised beds. ARGH!
    Happy Monday!

  7. Hi Leslie!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! We're vegetarian too, like your son. We still eat eggs and dairy (so I guess we're called lacto-ovo vegetarians) - I want to get a few chickens for eggs but I don't think our yard is big enough???
Hope you're surviving your floor installation.
    Happy Monday!
    Sally
