UPDATE on my Father-in-law: Since we didn't receive any call yesterday, in the evening my husband first tried his step mother's cell phone and she didn't pick up, so he left a message. He waited a bit for her to return his call and when she didn't, called his father's hospital room. We found out that he was going to have surgery this morning at six am. ARGH! When was anybody going to call us?! miffle piffle posh! Sorry, that makes me so cranky that no one called to tell us the surgery plans.
My father-in-law called himself this morning to say his blood wasn't thin enough, so the surgery has been rescheduled for tomorrow.
On to Rednesday!
Sorry, I really had to scramble to find some red. Except for a couple, these are more like a bit of red, than red. But I think they're so much fun. Vintage sewing patterns of my mothers. I LOVE the big skirts and tiny waists. Only two have a date - 1953 and 1954.
Here's the star of my Rednesday teehee! I used it as an image for a card I made for my friend Pam, of Yoborobo. (Whoops - I should clarify - when I say "I used it", I mean I took a scan of it and used the image. See card I made after pattern package.)
I hope that your father-in-law's surgery is a success. I will keep you all in my prayers. Now on to your post. I love all of your vintage patterns!!I wish that my mom had saved hers. The full skirts, the tiny waists, just fabulous!! The apron pattern is darling too!!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Susan and Bentley
xxoo
Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words and prayers for my FIL, I so appreciate them.
Aren't they fun patterns! The apron is so cute, I need to make one. I'm sure there must be more lurking somewhere at my parents house (mom passed away in '96), my mother kept everything. Which used to annoy me but now tickles me and means I have a lot of things that were dear to her and they bring lots of smiles. (ay yi yi, worlds longest sentence!)
Happy Wednesday to you and Bentley! Arf Arf!
Sally
I love the old patterns. The graphics are so amazing. I posted some red patterns a few wednesdays ago. I don't even mind if the patterns packages are ripped, if I can still cut out the image. I love yours. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherrie!
ReplyDeleteI agree, the images are so wonderful! I'm running over to visit you now and see yours. :)
Happy Rednesday,
Sally
Hi Sally,
ReplyDeleteLove the pattersn. I just think they bring back fond memories of sewing with my Mom. Good luck to you Father in law, I hope his surgery goes well. My quilt and red afghan were 97 cents each. You heard me right. Come on over and we'll go thrifting!
Leslie
Hi Leslie!
ReplyDeleteI'll be right over! :)
Such sweet memories - I can remember many a Saturday going to the fabric store and picking out patterns and fabric with my mom.
Thank you so much for your good thoughts for FIL, I so appreciate it!
Hope your floor tile is looking lovely!
Sally
Oh, so cute, I love all the old patterns, what fond memories of my mom sewing! Thank you for visiting and leaving your kind comment on my "Strolling along Memory Lane..."REDNESDAY"! I couldn't believe my eyes when I found this wicker carriage with the "RED" and white gingham hood and "RED" wheels.
ReplyDeleteHugz,
Kim
Hi Kim!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting! Your carriage is so adorable, wishing you many hours of enjoyment!
Happy Rednesday,
Sally
I hope your FIL will be alright. My Grandma was in the hospital and my family decided a few days later to let me know...how rude huh? They said to me...oh yeah Grammma's in the hospital. I was like...What??? Any how she was fine...but still... I will be praying for him... I have always admired old patterns but think if I ever made a dress from one it would be too little...their waists were so tiny back then...Mica/The Child's Paper
ReplyDeleteHi Mica!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting and for commiserating with me about the rude people. Sheesh.
I'm so sorry you experienced that too. Sure makes you go "hmmmmmmm"?! So glad to hear your gramma is fine.
& thank you so much for your prayers and good thoughts for my FIL, I so appreciate it!
Yes, I think you're absolutely right, the measurements are so very different from what they are today - you'd really need to know how to alter patterns I think. Which I don't. WAH!
Happy Rednesday,
Sally
Sally, your patterns are gorgeous! I especially love the little girls outfit-now if only I knew how to sew! Someday. I have the machine and some books, now I just need to sit down and do it!
ReplyDeleteI will keep your father in law in my prayers. Good luck!
Blessings,
Jo
Hope your father-in-law gets better. My mother has some of these patterns. Don't you wish women would wear maternity clothes like this today instead of being half naked?
ReplyDeleteI hope all goes well for your FIL's surgery tomorrow, Sally. I know it'll be a long day, so I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI always like looking at old patterns! I actually wish those styles were still in fashion, but do you see the teeny tiny waists on those ladies?! I love the card you made for your friend. Such a great idea to use the images from old patterns!
Happy REDnesday,
Carol

Hi Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words and good wishes for my FIL! I think his blood may have been too skinny??? Or did I get that backwards??? You gave me a big smile with "skinny"!
So glad you enjoyed the patterns, wishing you lots of crafty fun!
Happy Thursday,
Sally
Classy! Some are still in style. The women's waists look about three inches round, how can they breathe? :-). You did a marvelous job with the card. I love it! Hope the surgery went well, I would be very frustrated as well to know about such thing last minute. What the H?
ReplyDeleteHi Self Sagacity!
ReplyDeleteAren't their waists amazing?! They must be really exaggerated, otherwise they'd pass out like you said. ;)
Thank you so much for your kind words about my card and for my FIL - and thanks for commiserating with me over the lack of communication! WTH is right! Ay yi yi.
Happy holiday weekend,
Sally
Cool looking vintage dresses! Hope your father-in-law is doing well.
