Vintage Metal Thingies Thursday

(Please visit Suzanne at Colorado Lady for more Vintage Thingie Thursday fun!)

I'm sharing two things that I got recently at the Santa Monica Airport Antique Flea Market.

I saw these metal trays (luncheon size, not full size) and fell in love with them but they were at the very beginning of the show and I didn't want to lug them around with me. So I told myself, "If they're still here when we get back to the exit, I'll get them!" and YIPPIE, they were still there. My husband asked how many I wanted and I said "All of them!" bwahahhahahha! So we came home with nine of these fun trays. I thought they'd be great for summer eating on the patio. Currently hubby has his morning coffee set up (Honey and a mug) on one and I have my morning tea set up (Agave nectar and a mug) on another. Now if the sun would just come out and the chill would go away (we're talking about "Sunny Southern California" here - apparently not this summer!), we could have our sammies and iced tea outside on them.

Oh my gosh! I am so in love with this, is it not the cutest thing?! An antique candy tin ... with a kitty and a doggie! WAHOO! Looks like I have the beginnings of a doggie collection.

It says "Callard & Bowsers Butter-Scotch" on the front top and in the left hand bottom corner it says "Who spilled the milk?" and in the right hand bottom corner, "The Children's Box". On the lid edge there is a quote that reads "Really wholesome confectionery", Lancet.

I just look at it and smile.

Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday to everyone!

  6. Hi Sally! What nice finds. I've not heard of Vintage Thingy Thurs. who does this? It sounds really neat.
Speaking of vintage thingys, the reason I stopped by is..My friend Beth at dimestorechic.etsy.com has a metal recipe box in a colonial pattern in black, red, brown,& cream. It's $3, a little worn, but thought maybe that'd go with any colors you might pick for your redo.

Hey, another Californian! Are you having any sunshine? It's been so dismal on the coast. I should be grateful it hasn't been hot and gloomy, huh?! I'll stop whining now. ;)
I loved your candy cabinet today and all your vintage pieces.

  22. I love your trays. I saw some green trays at a thrift store a couple days ago but didn't buy them because I didn't think I would use them.

I remember eating Callard and Bowser butterscotch. It was very good. I love your tin too, especially the cat that looks kind of like one of mine.

  31. What a cute candy tin! And Sally, I don't think the Mountain drive is scary in the summertime but then again I don't know the route you'd take. Let me know if you'll ever try to make the trip and we'll meet you there!

  33. Hi Postcardy!
I probably wouldn't have bought the trays either had I not been reading all of these thrifting and vintage blogs lately - now I'm so glad that I did!
Your kitty is a cutie! I gather Callard and Bowsers has been around for a long time. I looked a little online for my tin, saw a lot of other tins but not mine. Many newer, phone box shaped ones out there.
    Happy Belated VTT!
