(please visit Suzanne at Colorado Lady for more Vintage Thingie Thursday fun!)
This Thursday I'm sharing a kitschy craft from my 1960's childhood.
It may predate the 1960's but I first saw it at my elementary school
carnival in 1965 and thought it was so great. The ones I saw were
fishes, made of tulle. Thank heavens our tastes evolve, huh?!
I guess I must have been so ga ga about it, that my mother sent away for this craft kit.
(In case you're a young whippersnapper and don't recall this craft, it was making decorations using Sweetheart soap bars as your foundation.)

I have been around a long time, but do not remember seeing these cuties. Probably, because, we could not afford store bought soap.
ReplyDeleteAwww...How cute and fun! It's so much fun to remember what we did as kids and other memories come flooding back too!
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative. These are all so adorable....Christine
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! I do remember these and making some during Vacation Bible School! :) Thanks so much for popping in to see me and the sweet story of you and your mom picking up the dishes at the grocery store.

I had forgotten all about Sweetheart Soup...wonder if they still make it? We used to carve all sorts of things out of it.:)
ReplyDeleteI think there's a LOT of us missing our moms at this time of year. Like you, I miss mine ALL the time.
Happiest Mother's Day.

I use to make and sell the sweetheart fish and ivory bibles when I was a child. A few years back I found a site that sold the sweetheart soap but they wanted like 20 dollars for a couple of bars. I am looking to bring them back to local craft fairs in my area but am still searching for the best bar to replace the sweetheart soap. I don't care for the Pear's soap but maybe if I made and saw it in 3-d it would win me over.LOVE your other ideas and will definitely enjoy making them with my grandson.
ReplyDeleteI love SweetHeart soap! Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteI don't think my comment posted...
