My Dad is in the Hospital

UPDATE: 1/28/11 10:30 AM (PST): My father now has some pneumonia, so they can't take him off of the breathing machine yet. They are hoping for tomorrow.

I'm now super sick ARGH! and I'm not sure if I understood my dad's girlfriend correctly or not but I think she said she spent the night at the hospital with him or at least stayed late into the night. My father panics with the tube in and attempts to pull it out, so frightening(!!!), so she stayed to soothe him.

How about a collective fingers and appendages crossed for the pneumonia to go away and swift removal of the breathing tube for my Pops?!

Thanks you guys!

P.S. And a big Happy Birthday to NanE! :)

UPDATE: 1/27/11 9:30 AM (PST): I was so hoping to not have anything to add, hoping all was smooth sailing but found out that my dad is still on a breathing tube in ICU. This was one of the MANY problems he had at UCLA during his 2008 stay there - his blood oxygen levels are low and he has to have the breathing tube in.

So if you feel up to it, got any spare Get Well Daddy vibes and mojo left, we can sure use it over here. sniffle sniffle ack achoo .... back to bed I go ...

UPDATE 1/27/11 6:30 AM (PST): Sick as a dog over here but wanted to update you guys ... My father had his surgery yesterday and all went well. (hurray hurrah, doing the happy dance, best birthday present!) The last update we received from my dad's girlfriend was around eight o'clock last night, he was out of Recovery and they were keeping him in ICU last night because of his breathing and heart issues. Haven't heard anything yet today.

Crawling back into bed ... I may not update for awhile, just lay around like a lump. WAH! cough cough sniffle sniffle ....

Thanks again so much for all of your kind words, care and concern! Love you guys!

UPDATE 1/26/11, 9:30 AM (PST): Just spoke with my father's girlfriend - my dad's surgery is on for today but he is an "add-on" patient ... they will do all scheduled surgeries before they do his and there's no telling when his surgery will be - could be afternoon, could even be evening.

Hold the presses teehee ... phone just rang and unless previously scheduled surgeries go longer, Dad is now scheduled for twelve thirty today (currently, that is two and a half hours away).

My father has emphysema and breathing issues and also a wonky heart beat, so I'm a bundle of nerves over here. (He had a horrible experience at UCLA in 2008 and the memory of it lingers in my memory.)

Thanks so much for all of your care and concern and also for the birthday wishes! You are all very dear to me, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE 1/25/11, 5 PM (PST): My Dad's girlfriend called me a little bit ago and said that my father's surgery is tentatively scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) at noon, pending two test results ... hoping since the 26th is my birthday, it will bring extra good luck along with it!

(I spoke to my Dad around 3 PM, he said he felt good and he seemed to be in very good spirits.)

Thank you so much for all of your kind words and commiserating with me, I so appreciate your care and friendship!

Original Post:

My 92 year old Dad is in the hospital. WAH!

My dad's girlfriend called yesterday evening and said he was sitting on the edge of the bed and he slipped off the bed and onto the floor and broke his hip!

He'll have to have surgery - the doctors are meeting this morning to discuss whether he's a candidate for surgery or not and if so, there's a remote chance the surgery will be today - but more likely, it will be tomorrow or Thursday.

My husband and I are sick, so we can't visit him yet. (when it rains, it pours!)

Please think a good thought for him. I will try to update when I can.
