(Please visit Suzanne at Colorado Lady for more Vintage Thingie Thursday fun!)
I picked up this yummy vintage autograph album at the Long Beach Outdoor Antique Market this past weekend. It's hanging on by it's last stitch but I love it so! There are only a few pages with messages entered but they are heartbreakingly sweet, at least to this sentimental goofball they are. One sends "many wishes" for the owners "future welfare" - how different we used to use words, huh?! And every so often inside, there are some gorgeous vintage graphics. (I am including all of the graphics but just a few of the messages.) This album belonged to a young man (of an undetermined age) named Arthur and the dates inside range from 1883 to 1901.
I would have loved to have found that album. Not only do we not talk like that anymore, we do not have the same good penmanship. Sigh. Something else lost in this computer-texting-e-mail world of ours. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherrie!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely, I'm so glad I happened upon it. I agree, wasn't the handwriting beautiful?! I miss exchanging cards and letters so much.
Happy Rednesday and VTT,
Sally
Sally, what a beautiful old book! Don't you wish you could find out who Arthur was, what his life was like? Yes, I loved the way they phrased things and I loved their penmanship. Everyone had such amazing handwriting back then. Thank you for sharing such a sweet treasure, Nan
ReplyDeleteThis is so wonderful! Sad that these albums fall out of the family hands isn't it but it is nice for someone to find and appreciate again. I am the keeper of my mother's and grandmother's old albums and diaries.
ReplyDeleteWow, how gorgeous--and what a find...you must have been so excited!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Rednesday!
Sending hugs your way,
Cindy

Hi Nan!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed the book! Oh boy, I sure do wish I could find out about Arthur. Wouldn't that be fun to unravel that mystery?!
Happy Rednesday and VTT,
Sally
Hi Sunny simple life :)
ReplyDeleteI know, it just breaks my heart to see these much loved treasures for sale. The same booth that I bought this at, had someone's baby book. So sad that there was no remaining family or that the family didn't care. WAH! I have some of my parents and grandparent's things and plan to distribute them to my nieces and cousins. Hopefully (fingers crossed!) they will find value in them and their history.
Happy Rednesday and VTT,
Sally
Hi Cindy!
ReplyDeleteYes! I was just about jumping up and down when I saw it! The seller had marked the graphics pages but didn't seem to know that the inscriptions were dear and exciting too - to me at any rate. This vendor always has wonderful things - I could just go to her booth and be happy every month. (and be penniless too hah!)
Wishing you a fantastic turn out at your gallery exhibition!
Happy Rednesday and VTT,
Sally

ReplyDeleteHi Anna!

Sally
What a TREASURE that is! I just LOVE the beautiful way people thought in those days. AND the penmanship is Gorgeous! I have several old photo albums full of tin type photos but I've never come across one like yours. Hmmmm, I'm now on a new quest...

ReplyDeleteThat is a sweet album. It seems like kind of a strange style for a boy, though.
