Happy Vintage Thingie Thursday!
Feeling a little poorly over here ... sniffle sniffle ACHOO ... so I'm arriving pretty late to Vintage Thingie Thursday. Sorry! I've been laying down, reading "The Hunger Games" and enjoying it! And also wondering if there was anything I could pull together easily to share this Thursday???
I grabbed a few things that were close at hand ... some stuff my family must have picked up on road trip vacations before I was born (but then I seem to remember Paul Bunyon, so I guess I was there too). A little barrel from The Trees of Mystery, bear and squirrel salt and pepper shakers (actually I don't know where they got these???, but they go so well with a National Park theme that I'm throwing them in hahahhaha) and some fun vintage postcards from their travels.

It is never too late to share your vintage things. I have not thought of this character in a long time. Trust you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteAww, what sweet treasures! I love the road trip theme you put together there. That was a great idea! I might have to borrow it! =)
ReplyDeleteWe've been to all of those places, although Paul Bunyan looks different than I remember. I wonder if they've replaced him with a bigger version over the years.
ReplyDeleteI've seen pictures like this of cars driving through the hollowed out base of a redwood - - - always fascinated me.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it - - - I believe there was a scene in the "Gnomemobile" Disney movie where they drove through a tree like that.
I wonder if that shop in the tree is still there??
ReplyDeleteCute s&p's. How fun to drive through a tree. Hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI have some old postcards similar to these when my parents took a trip to Washington State to visit my sister either in the 1950's or 60's. I love old postcards! Thanks for taking us on a "road trip". I enjoyed the scenery!
ReplyDeleteWe've been to the Sequoia National Park in Calf. and drove through one of those big trees, my parents took those 8mm films. So fun to look back isn't it.

Those squirrel salt and pepper shakers are too cute!
ReplyDeleteBrings back memories for me of trees that one could drive a car through. We had one of those trees here with little pullout park (with two picnic tables) by the old highway 9. But, alas it is gone now.
ReplyDeleteBTW did you know that you are a "No-Reply" Blogger?
I happened upon your blog in my search for clothespin doll-making instructions and saw that you had purchased a December 1961 issue of Family Circle!!!!!!!!!!! I have been searching and searching the internet for these instructions: My mother made these dolls when we were kids. A few years ago, I thought I would make some and looked in her project closet to find a scrapbook that would hold these; no luck. I started searching diligently but gave up because we were not certain which magazine the dolls had been in, FC or Woman's Day..........I have made many dolls, one-of-a-kind, but still wanted to find the originals!
ReplyDeleteThrilled to find these---THANK YOU.

I hope you are feeling better. I love them all! Especially the cool postcards!
ReplyDeleteI remember reading a story in about 4th grade about the tree that was so big you drive through it. When we went to CA on vacation I begged to see this tree, so my parents drove about 100 miles out of their way and we did drive through the tree. I have a picture of it. One of my fondest memories. Great stuff you have-love the little squirrels! Have a good week!
