georgie is not going to make it

One year ago this very morning, we drove down to meet two senior Golden Retrievers who had been dropped off by their owner at the animal shelter to be euthanized and rescued by a GR rescue organization. We came home with two new best furry friends.

Two months later, we found out dear George had inoperable cancer. He has met and weathered all other setbacks like a champ, outliving the specialists dire forecast for him by ten months.  He has been the sweetest and best boy, bringing us joy every moment the past year.

But his cancer and this current challenge has proved to be too much. He cannot hold down food or water or his medications.

I am sitting by his side, rubbing his dear and noble face and crying endless tears.

We will love him and cuddle him today and tomorrow we will say goodbye and let him go ...

Thank you so very much for all of your kind words and prayers for Georgie!

  1. :( Your sweet sweet Boy! We just went through this earlier in the year with our Billy, so I really do know your pain. Well...everyone does, as this is the way it goes right? We love them so much that our hearts absolutely break when it is time for them to go. The amazing thing is that it really does get better.
Georgie was so fortunate to be all cozy and surrounded by nothing but love in his last year of life...all thanks to you.
Hugs to you and your boy!

  2. Sally, I'm beyond words. Sending love and hugs. Love your sweet Georgie today, and later While you grieve, know how wonderful you were to give him an extra year, and how in return he gave you his sweet unconditional love and devotion. xo, Pam

  4. When a soul that we love takes flight on the wings of a dove, we grieve. . .
But we trust and believe there is a place overflowing with grace where EVERY soul is at peace and all weeping has ceased. . . .
And when that soul looks down from above, all he sees is a legacy of love.
With great Sympathy. I firmly believe that a dog has a soul.
