slim pickins

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and somehow managing to stay cool.

We're having fun being on vacation over here ... well, interspersed with the going through of more boxes of my parents things.  The past couple of days we've been going through boxes and half of my mind has been on whether or not something would be fun for Rednesday and Vintage Thingie Thursday.  I thought these would be good for a giggle and smile ... an Uncle Wiggily game board and this amusing vintage "hybrid" beater.

I think the vintage illustrations are so darling on this -
I think it must have been my brothers,
I couldn't find anything but the game board.

Oh gosh!  I nearly gave this one away to the Good Will!
I originally thought it was an auto flare or something,
without even really looking at it and wasn't interested at all.
What a noodlehead I am!
That's what happens when you've been going through boxes
for over a year ... saturation and overload.
Thankfully, my husband hesitated when I said I didn't want it
and then I took a second look.

It was made by the Arthur Beck Company of Chicago
(no matter what I do or how many times I delete the space,
blogger keeps tossing in a big cavernous space right here
ARGH!)

and has a copyright date of 1948.
They state that it is a "wonderful party or Bridge gift
and an invaluable household aid" hahahhahhahaha!
Whips  Beats Mixes
One hand operates it
Perfect results in minutes

I guess my mom didn't believe the claims as it's in pristine shape,
apparently never used.

  1. Sally, love the Uncle Wiggley game board. You should hang it up somewhere, it's so cute. The whip thingy--they had some weird utensils back in the day. It's kind of cool though. I meant to tell you we finally saw The Most Exotic Marigold Hotel. We really liked it too. Happy Week!

  2. Hi Sally!
Oh, I know what you mean about thrifting! I guess it barrels down to being in the right place at the right time!
I do like the game you spied...and the old timey graphics. they just don't make them that way anymore!
I hope you are having a good summer. Ours finally arrived with temps in the 90s this past 5 or 6 days. I am so thankful that we don't have the humnidity like those suffering in the midwest and back east.
Thank you for your sweet visit to my blog!
    Blessings,
    Carolynn :)

  3. There are a lot of things from my past, I wish had now. At different stages of our life our priorities change. Glad you still had some of the treasures from the past.

  4. Hi Sally, The heat around here hasn't been too bad yet, of course we're used to 100 plus around here. I saw the preview for the Intouchables and it looked really good. My son BJ saw it and loved it. Singin in the Rain is one of my faves-but I've never seen it on a big screen -you lucky! Good luck on the garage door. Hope it goes without a hitch. I'm getting a french door window replaced next week and hope it doesn't mess up the door. Anyway , out to lunch with BJ-it's so fun to have him around for the summer!Have a good one!

  6. Hello
Thanks for the comment about my quilt. I too wonder about the people "behind" the quilt. I did a little "googling" to try to find something out. But, there are alot of bakers and Sims out there, lol

  7. The board game would be wonderful framed for a den or playroom. I have a metal whip that was my grandmothers, but hers was well used.

  8. That game board is cute...I've never seen one like it :) Pampered Chef now makes a similar whip---theirs stands up in the pan. Mine is really handy for gravy or making a single omelet. Hope you have a great weekend!

  10. I am not surprised it's taken a year to sort through. The memories that must be in those boxes must be wonderful. I love the beater, you can still buy something similar today. They make wonderful milky froth for a coffee, or whipping cream.
Thank you for visiting me and for your nice comment. xo

  11. The board game is really neat. I agree with the lady who said it would be fun, framed. You might give the whip a try, some of those old things really worked very well. I am so glad hubby is there with you to sort through things. Lean on him when necessary.
Thanks for visiting my tablescape and your kind comments.
    Have a great weekend. Ginger:)
